Watergarden 2

Watergarden is a mobile in a response to the client’s beautiful sunroom, with windows framing the garden on three sides. I wanted to invite the garden inside by creating mobiles inspired by it.

Watergarden is two mobiles comprised of clusters of leaves, arranged so that they glide by each other without touching. Swivels attached at intervals to allow the clusters of leaves to turn and shift to make random forms. The two mobiles are intended to be viewed together as they each respond in turn to the movement of air through the space.

Made from hand painted paper and stainless steel wire, Watergarden floats like a giant, shifting watercolour painting. The mobile elements are inspired by the coastal banksia growing outside the windows. The colour palette is taken from the garden – the dusky olives and ochres of Australian coastal flora.
