Headland I

Hinterland
'Hinterland' was inspired by the memory of a carefree summer, of lying in the long grass in the sunshine, walking through the rainforest with my first love, being immersed in the cool waters of a creek as yabbies approached my skin. 'Hinterland' is coloured by the lush greens of rainforest and hinterland pasture, the movement of the mobile reminiscent of trees moving gently in the breeze on a summer afternoon.

The materials I have used for 'Hinterland' are stainless steel wire, copper wire, stone, paper, gouache and polyurethane resin. Anchored firmly by a heavy stone, the paper mobile flutters and drifts. Although 'Hinterland' is quite robust, it carries a sense of the poetry of impermanence.

Headland
The 'Headland' mobiles are based on Lobster Bay near Killcare, where David Moore built a beautiful house perched on a cliff cradled by obese angophoras. The works reflect the glimpses of the sea through the trees, and the rocks below, where the sea meets the land. These works eventually led to the 'Headland' exhibition at Australian Galleries, Smith St, Melbourne.
