White washed Oak Veneer and custom made, addressable, injection moulded LED lighting

Scribbly Gum, located in the foyer of the ACT Law courts, is comprised of a series of whitewashed oak veneer panels. The curved, intersecting lines that define the shapes of these wooden panels are inspired by the distinctive patterns on the bark of the ‘Scribbly Gum’ tree which grows in the Canberra region.

Light is used in Scribbly Gum to create a visually dynamic artwork, as bright points of light appear to slowly weave their way through the curvaceous maze of scribbles. The gradual, glowing movement of these lights creates a sense of time passing, or shadows passing over the landscape.
